Vision Statement Stillpoint Family Resources offers healing to families in crisis through counseling services and educational outreach. These families are being crushed by mounting psychological, medical, and social challenges: a special needs child, a splintering marriage, abuse, addiction, depression, violence, poverty. We believe that the family is the foundation on which our society is built, and thus no endeavor is more worthy of time and effort than the saving of families.
The Need
Family life has never been in greater danger, psychologically, socially, spiritually. The divorce rate is at an all time high, parents spend less and less time with their children, and increasing numbers of young adults feel alienated, and fearful about the future. And precisely at this desperate time, psychological and educational supports have become all the more difficult to access because of rising counseling costs, state budget cuts, and insurance companies becoming more exclusive in their coverage and limited in their care. Consider the following statistics:
- The divorce rate in the State of California is now at 60%
- Only 1 in 5 children with a psychiatric disorder gets treatment
- 54% of children in L.A. County fall below the poverty level
- 60-80% of adolescents who attempt suicide never receive follow-up care
- 1 out of every 33 boys is diagnosed with Autism
- Roughly 80% of marriages with a special needs child end in divorce
- The average American father spends fifteen minutes a day with his children
- Parents today spend 40% less time with their children than parents spent with their children 40 years ago
The Action Plan
With its excellent staff and training clinic, Stillpoint Resources is positioned to offer significant help to families in crisis, intervening at every level of the system.
Guided by our mission, Stillpoint Family Resources’ Formation for Excellence program both strengthens our staff’s professional abilities, and encourages them to grow personally, so that significant help can be offered to children, teens, couples, adults, and families. Stillpoint’s entire staff participates in this ongoing formation, with the belief that at every stage of development, one should be growing personally and professionally. Formation for Excellence also reaches into the community, bringing educational workshops to those in need through our highly trained clinical and non-clinical staff members. This broad experience is designed to better prepare Stillpoint to meet the needs of a growing population that is underserved and in great need of excellent longer-term psychological help.
Our 501©3 non-profit status gives us the ability to accept tax-deductible contributions from individuals, and grants from foundations. Thus, we are able to work with a significant number of people who could not otherwise afford the help they need.
The Result
Families in crisis will have a place to turn for excellent and ongoing support, healing, and hope because of our outstanding counseling and educational efforts. |
