Virtues Project
Goal: The development, presentation, and dissemination of Virtue Therapy through workshops, workbooks/curriculum, books, and CD’s/DVD’s
What is Virtue Therapy?
Briefly, Virtue Therapy is “healing through virtue”. Through the identification, study, and ongoing practice of good habits (a.k.a. Virtues), healing and lasting changes occurs.
We don’t change because we feel or think a lot…we change because we develop good habits, and then live them day in and day out!
There are particular virtues (good habits) that must be acquired for this change to be most transformative and lasting.
How is Virtue Therapy unique?
The Virtue Project is unique in several key ways:
- It identifies and defines key virtues that form and inform
- The Believer: Religion, Courage, Availability, Industriousness, Order
- Couples: Friendship, Chastity, Play, Generativity, Transparency
- Man: Justice, Fatherhood, Eros, Camaraderie, Physicality
- Woman: Communication, Motherhood, Beauty, Receptivity, Compassion
- Family: In development
- Teens: In development
- It is grounded in Natural Law
- Everything has a law built into it
- Humans can, by use of reason and faith, discover what is in accord with their natures
- There is objective morality (e.g. the Ten Commandments, the Seven Deadly Sins)
- It blends fundamental philosophical and theological truths with psychological truths
- It presents a practical “how to” application curriculum, guiding participants in practicing and acquiring these key virtues
- It can stand alone as a Character Formation program, or as a supplement for psychological counseling or spiritual direction
Goals for The Virtue Project:
- Six Virtue Therapy workshop modules to be presented throughout the country
- Workbooks/Curriculum to accompany the six modules
